Karthick Murugan, a Principal at Kyndryl, is devoted to helping customers overcome tough challenges

 

The world’s biggest problems are often complex and demand unconventional thinking to solve. For Karthick Murugan, that type of complexity is a thrill. He attributes his success as an IT innovator to his passion for tackling problems that lack easy answers.

“There’s an innate sense of satisfaction that comes with solving complex challenges, especially when it helps organizations improve user experience or streamline operations,” said Murugan, Principal Architect for Kyndryl Consult in India. “I see these as opportunities to build solutions that can have a lasting, real-world impact.”

For over two decades, Murugan has developed deep expertise in enterprise-scale solutions. Today, he works with diverse teams to turn business needs into scalable architectures. His passion for innovation began early in life.


“I grew up in a culture that emphasized focus, dedication and purpose — I carry these values with me to this day,” said Murugan. “Whether it’s designing solutions, collaborating with teams or supporting customers, I stay focused, committed and add real value to the environment I’m part of.”

What has been the highlight of your career so far?

Receiving the Open Group Distinguished Architect certification, an independent global certification for skills and knowledge, was incredibly meaningful to me professionally and personally. It was rewarding to achieve a goal I set early in my career and pursued tirelessly. The certification recognized my dedication to the profession and the impact I’ve made as a technology leader.
 

What is the meaning of innovation?

Innovation is about discovering new and better ways to solve customer problems and generating fresh ideas that make things more efficient and more effective for people. Being part of a team that values innovation and fosters an environment where ideas can incubate and grow keeps me motivated and engaged every day.

What is the biggest business issue you have addressed?

Migrating and transforming a customer’s IT infrastructure during its separation from its parent company was a high-stakes project. It involved technical challenges like integrating systems and migrating data, as well as managing dependencies, aligning stakeholders and ensuring minimal business disruption. By collaborating with cross-functional teams, I helped design and implement solutions that enabled the customer’s independence, setting them up for future growth and transformation, all while delivering on time and within budget.
 

How have you found a sense of belonging at Kyndryl?

At Kyndryl, I’ve found a true sense of belonging, thanks to the trust, teamwork and support from my colleagues. Together, we strive toward our shared goals of delivering exceptional customer experience.
 

What is your best piece of advice?

Most people learn from their mistakes, but the wise learn from others' mistakes. In a fast-paced environment, learning proactively from peers and mentors helps us anticipate challenges, make informed decisions and lead with confidence.
