Kyndryl’s new Principal takes center stage, using tech and art to crack complex challenges

To Wojciech Flakus, IT architecture isn’t just technical — it’s a deeply personal form of expression.

“I believe solutions-based architecture is a form of artistry,” said Flakus, Principal Architect at Kyndryl. “It takes me back to my stage performances, where I drew energy and inspiration from the audience.”

A lifelong learner and seasoned musical performer, Flakus brings sharp focus and creative energy to every stage — whether architecting IT systems, mentoring teams, or pitching bold ideas to stakeholders. Now leading automation and transformation efforts for global customers in Poland, he helps organizations design scalable solutions that drive results.

Here, Flakus unpacks the defining moments and innovation mindset behind his journey.

What is the meaning of innovation?

Innovation is about leveraging our collective skills and thinking unconventionally to anticipate the future. It’s about collaborating effectively and driving meaningful change through diverse ideas.

In a career of highlights, what have been your biggest plays?

Two moments stand out. Early in my career, I led a global team of developers, which taught me how to manage large, distributed technical teams — a skill that still shapes my leadership. I recently worked on a series of pilot automation projects for a major Kyndryl customer, deepening my understanding of regulatory and architectural challenges.

What business issue are you addressing?

Throughout my time at Kyndryl, I’ve led several digital transformation projects for customers. I used the insights I learned from each experience to create an innovative, scalable framework. Today, I’m incredibly proud that several customers are currently implementing it.

I believe solutions-based architecture is a form of artistry. It takes me back to my stage performances, where I drew energy and inspiration from the audience.

What do you enjoy most about your work at Kyndryl?

As a former artist, I have a natural affinity toward the stage. Whether it’s leading discussions with customers or presenting new ideas, I thrive on the adrenaline of audience interaction in real time. I also find fulfillment in complex projects that push me to learn new skills and grow as an architect.

How have you found a sense of belonging at Kyndryl?

I’m fortunate to work with talented individuals and collaborative teams that push me to improve every day. At Kyndryl, I’ve been inspired by several great managers and leaders over the years, many of whom I still consider my friends.

What is your best piece of advice?

Be patient. Don’t chase roles or positions. Instead, focus on developing your skills and contributing to meaningful projects. Opportunities will often come to you when you consistently put in the effort.
