Ventisqueros Turns to Kyndryl to Advance Its Digital Transformation and Environmental Commitment in Chile
June 23, 2022
PUERTO MONTT, Chile, June 23, 2022—Kyndryl (NYSE: KD), the world's largest IT infrastructure services provider, and Ventisqueros, a leading Chilean company in salmon production, announced an agreement under which Kyndryl supported Ventisqueros as it develops and executes the digital transformation of its production value chain. Together, this work will enable Ventisqueros to harness existing data for better insights into the fish value chain, leading to improved salmon production and reduced environmental risks.
Chile is the second largest producer of salmon worldwide, surpassed only by Norway, and salmon production is the second largest export industry in Chile. Ventisqueros contributes almost 50 thousand gross tons of salmon per year to the market. As part of this effort, the company is committed to promoting and maintaining the quality of its business while caring for regional ecology, the environment, and sustainability. As the farmed fishing industry has evolved in recent years, new technological tools and the digitization of the salmon production chain have unlocked new opportunities to achieve higher consumer standards. With that in mind, Ventisqueros selected Kyndryl to help enable the company to build a roadmap to adopt a new strategy to address market trends and pursue sustainable growth.
By collaborating with Kyndryl, Ventisqueros reviewed and identified strategic ways to digitize and better integrate crucial parts of its value chain—from the salmon farm to the consumer's table—and continue differentiating itself in the Chilean and international markets.
Ventisqueros tapped Kyndryl’s experts in Advisory and Implementation Services to leverage its data by integrating analytics that can help the company better respond to unexpected changes in customer demand. With better data insights, Ventisqueros can gain flexibility in the management of its supply chain locally and globally, and better integrate its production and distribution chain, such as fish production and fattening, to meet demand accordingly.
“Ventisqueros' mission is to continue being the chilean boutique salmon producer by excellence. With the support of the Kyndryl consulting team, we made and developed an exhaustive diagnosis for the company's digital maturity that will allow us to continue offering products, continuously improving our production chain to increase our sustainability standards,” commented José Luis Vial, CEO of Ventisqueros.
Ventisqueros chose Kyndryl for this project due to its deep expertise in data and analytics, as well as its knowledge of supply chain management. Together, Ventisqueros and Kyndryl are accelerating the digitization and integration of the value chain of one of the most important companies in national aquaculture.
“At Kyndryl, we continue to work with Ventisqueros throughout their journey of innovation and digital transformation. This project was key to helping Ventisqueros deliver a differentiating and innovative experience for its end customer. This collaboration strengthened the commitment of both companies to caring for the environment, ecology and sustainability At Kyndryl, we continue working to digitally reinvent the aquaculture industry, which is one of the main economic activities in Chile,” said Carlos Marcel, Managing Director of Kyndryl Chile.
It is a subsidiary company of the German group Schörghuber Stiftung & Co. Corporate Group, dedicated to producing food and protein from its own farms of Atlantic Salmon and Coho Salmon. They have been managing operations in Chile for more than 30 years, employing around 1,200 people (as of Dec 2021) and have an approximate annual production of almost 50 thousand gross tons of salmon. The company maintains control of the process from the eggs that are purchased from external suppliers; the selection of raw materials that feed the fish; processing and even the distribution and sales of the finished product. The entire production process is controlled, in order to continuously improve sustainability, a seal that is reflected throughout the entire production chain.
