Our Environmental, Social and Governance strategy and framework

Corporate citizenship powers human progress and drives success, and we apply this principle to our Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategy.

Kyndryl is focused on economic, social, and environmental strategies that leverage our highly skilled workforce and the industry’s latest technologies to help implement positive social impact at scale and create a sustainable and inclusive future.

Our ESG framework is defined by three pillars:

  • Environment: Our sustainability programs
  • People: Our social responsibility programs
  • Trust: Our corporate governance programs

To foster accountability with our stakeholders, Kyndryl aligns its ESG program
to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Kyndryl’s
community and sustainability programs are aligned with the following SDGs:

Achieving net zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2040 with plans to reduce our GHG emissions by 50% and adopt 100% renewable energy by 2030.

An average of 98 training hours per employee to help equip all Kyndryl employees with technical, leadership, and business skills.

100% of non-exempt employees have completed business ethics training, marking our second consecutive year with full participation rates.

Our ESG materiality assessment

Kyndryl commissioned a comprehensive materiality assessment* that guides our approach and priorities in consideration of industry best practices and standards. This assessment highlights numerous important priorities, including but not limited to the following examples:

  • Cybersecurity and data privacy
  • Talent management incorporating inclusion, diversity, and equity (ID&E)
  • Product management of accessibility, affordability and universal needs
  • Management of greenhouse gas emissions and climate risks
  • Water management and waste management
  • Human rights
  • Business ethics
  • Community engagement and responsible legal and regulatory engagement

 

As a result of this assessment, we are continually monitoring and reassessing our priorities to best achieve our changing regulatory and stakeholder requirements.

We demonstrate this commitment by tracking, measuring and reporting our global environmental footprint to meet net zero targets and goals, working to meet applicable government requirements, building out our environmental education programs and partnerships, and innovating new sustainability solutions. We also manage our supply chain to ensure that we meet our global commitments to deliver responsible solutions for today and in the future.

Our ESG strategy is focused on economic, social, and environmental strategies, where we can leverage our technology and workforce.  Every day, we work toward creating a sustainable and inclusive future by driving sustainable practices and positive social impact at scale. We have set goals to hold ourselves accountable for progress across our businesses, operations, and supply chain. Our goals are aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs) and industry frameworks and best practices.  This ESG framework is a roadmap to help us achieve our goals and commitments.

In our first year, we committed to continuously evolving our strategy to make sure it aligns with best practices, the latest climate science, and regulations. Our ESG framework is defined as the following: Environment, which is our sustainability program focused on all environmental aspects and helps our stakeholders; People, which focuses on our talent including culture, skill development, employee engagement, inclusion, diversity and equity as well as corporate social responsibility community focused programs; and Trust, which focuses on our governance program and how we build integrity and value across our employees, investors, governments, customers and nonprofit organizations.

Our commitment to ensuring a sustainable and inclusive future is at the heart of Kyndryl’s purpose to power human progress. Kyndryl has built our net zero goal and Green House Gas (GHG) emissions targets on the scientific recommendations of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and has committed to the Science Based Targets initiative. We have committed to be net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040. Kyndryl is committed to ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 standards and is currently working towards certification. And we have aligned our sustainability programs and reporting to industry best practices and frameworks include the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), Sustainable Accounting Standards Board (SASB), CDP Climate Change questionnaire, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). We will also leverage industry best practices to govern its environmental and energy management system, processes and tools to ensure operations meet the high standards of sustainability compliance and responsible business practices that clients and partners expectations.

Kyndryl is fully committed to the Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDG) as defined by the United Nations and has developed our environmental, social and governance impact strategies aligned with these goals. In our Fiscal Year 2023 Corporate Citizenship Report we outline how we align to the UN SDG indicators to demonstrate our progress and impact.
