Leading multinational conglomerate in Peru taps Kyndryl to modernize and automate IT services to deliver value to all its companies

Peru, March 7, 2023 — Grupo Romero, one of the most important business conglomerates in Peru, continues to accelerate its IT transformation with Kyndryl, the world's largest IT infrastructure service provider. In a recent expansion of its services agreement, the two companies agreed to modernize and migrate mission-critical applications to the cloud, as well as transform Grupo Romero’s enterprise resource planning (ERP) platform across 14 of its portfolio companies in Peru and Latin America.

For 126 years, Grupo Romero has been adapting to the needs of a fast and ever-changing market, adopting new technologies and implementing IT systems that help drive efficient operations and business results in service of Peruvian and Latin American citizens. For several years now, the Group's Technology team has been transforming its corporate IT architecture and service model to improve technological governance, enhance business culture, optimize resources, and solidify its position as a leading technology innovator in the country.

As part of its innovation strategy, Excellia, center of excellence of Grupo Romero, relied on Kyndryl to lead the decentralization of the group’s IT Operating Model so that its portfolio companies could operate independently, and tailor their individual technological transformations to address industry-specific challenges and demands. Excellia - Grupo Romero was previously running approximately 2,000 servers and a single instance of ERP, containing more than 30 years of data from its companies.

By decentralizing Excellia - Grupo Romero’s corporate system, Kyndryl allowed each of the Group’s companies to prioritize cloud-based services and achieve IT independence, which led to faster runtimes, tailored execution, huge cost savings and greater corporate agility and improved client service, according to the needs of each company.

According to Renzo Hurtado, Vice President of Technology at Excellia - Grupo Romero, “Grupo Romero’s transformation is unique, comprehensive, and designed to accelerate new business value and services for our clients. As a leading company in technological innovation in Peru, we are working on a plan for the growth and evolution of the IT department so we can turn it into an axis of IT resources and support, but above all, into a key part for business development and an enabler of resources to improve and add value to our operations.”

Through the migration and transformation of 90% of its system, Excellia - Grupo Romero will drive IT cost savings of up to 23% with operational excellence and a greater ability to focus technology strategies to the needs of each of the group's companies. In turn these changes will propel innovation, which ultimately will have a positive impact on the services and products that each company offers to its customers.

“We are honored to help advance Grupo Romero’s IT modernization efforts and help its portfolio companies innovate for a more digital future. Our objective is to provide our clients with valuable solutions that meet and exceed their expectations,” said Rodolfo Armellini, Managing Director of Kyndryl Peru.

To execute this solution, Kyndryl worked with AWS for the provision of cloud infrastructure.
