Hispanic Heritage Month 2025: Kyndryls celebrate culture, connection and community

Every year, Hispanic Heritage Month is a time to reflect on the cultures, values and traditions that shape the Hispanic and Latino community. At Kyndryl, it’s also an opportunity to honor how those identities fuel innovation, leadership and connection across our global teams.

This month, five Kyndryls share how their Hispanic heritage has shaped them as individuals and professionals.

Maria B. Winans

Chief Marketing Officer

What does your Hispanic heritage mean to you, personally and professionally?

Being Hispanic has always been a source of pride and gratitude. Coming to the U.S. as a child, I saw every opportunity as a gift, and I refused to sit still. I’ve always believed in the power of “and” — why choose one path when you can embrace many? My parents led us by example and encouraged us to try new things. This has inspired my leadership style as I create platforms for people to grow, make mistakes and learn.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment?

Being part of the early stages of Kyndryl’s journey and helping shape our brand and purpose was a powerful and meaningful experience. Every time I see our logo and message — The Heart of Progress — I feel proud to have been part of that history.

How do you stay connected to your community?

At Kyndryl, I’m proud to be the Executive Sponsor of the Hispanic-Latino Kyndryl Inclusion Network (KIN) – an Employee Resource Group (ERG) to bring together our community through programs, events and conversations that celebrate our culture. Outside of work, my strongest connection is through my family and the Hispanic community where I live.

Nairy Chirino

Associate Director, Field Marketing

What does your Hispanic heritage mean to you, personally and professionally?

I’m proud of the unstoppable “Sí se puede!” (Yes, we can do it!) attitude that defines our culture. It helps me tackle challenges one day at a time with optimism. This month is a reminder to pause, celebrate and share our heritage that is rooted in this resilience, warmth and creativity.

How do your values shape you?

Kindness and empathy aren’t soft skills — they’re leadership superpowers. They have helped shape me to be an empathetic leader who builds trust, fuels collaboration across cultures and sparks long-term innovation. More importantly, kindness and empathy inspire people to give their best.

How do you stay connected to your community?

At Kyndryl, I help lead the Hispanic-Latino KIN and create spaces where people can share stories and grow together. Outside of work, I mentor and volunteer, always looking for ways to give back to the support and opportunities my own community has given me.

Vice President, Senior Partner

What does your Hispanic heritage mean to you, personally and professionally?

As a Costa Rican who has spent over three decades in the U.S., I see myself bridging heritage, cultures and traditions across generations. My mom taught me to always embrace curiosity. Growth comes from continuous learning and expanding our understanding — and genuine curiosity is what makes that possible.

I feel that my family values have shaped me into an empathetic leader who prioritizes trust and connection. Understanding people’s personal motivations builds stronger, more genuine relationships.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment?

Growing from the role of an individual contributor to being trusted with managing a team has been an incredible milestone in my career. It is humbling and energizing to have the opportunity to empower others.

How do you stay connected to your community?

Apart from being an active member of the Hispanic Latino KIN at Kyndryl, I volunteer at my daughter’s Spanish-immersion preschool, read the Costa Rican newspaper every day and participate in cultural events at my alma mater, Assumption University.

Alfonso Hernandez

Vice President, Senior Partner

What does your Hispanic heritage mean to you, personally and professionally?

There’s no single Hispanic identity, but we are connected by our shared values that give us our unique personal and professional strengths.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment?

I feel proud to represent Kyndryl before my customers. The diverse roles in my career empower me to manage a profit and loss statement and oversee mission-critical workloads — a role I enjoy and feel fortunate to have.

How do you stay connected to your community?

At Kyndryl, I lead the Hispanic-Latino KIN, creating a space for all Kyndryls to celebrate, learn and grow through our culture. Personally, I stay connected through travel — there’s nothing like hearing Spanish halfway across the world and instantly sharing a bond with a stranger.

Phil Robertson,

Associate Director, CIO Strategy & Operations

What does your Hispanic heritage mean to you, personally and professionally?

I’m proud of many aspects of my Peruvian culture — from the cuisine to the music to the history. This month gives me the chance to represent and celebrate it at work and outside too.

How do your values shape you?

My father always encouraged me to be in touch with our heritage. I grew up listening to stories of our Incan roots and life in Lima and Cuzco, instilling a pride in my culture that has guided me throughout my life.

How do you stay connected to your community?

At Kyndryl, I work with Hispanic Latino KIN to mentor colleagues through my experiences. Outside of work, I give back to the community through church activities, volunteerism and local events.
