Episode notes

Kyndryl's State of Modernization report shows that security requirements are one of the biggest challenges for organizations modernizing their technology. Frontier AI increases the complexity. The new capabilities also expand organizations’ ability to detect threats and recover from incidents.

In this episode, Canadian passenger rail service, VIA Rail, joins us to look at what AI means for enterprise cyber resilience, and what it takes to scale AI securely with trust and accountability built in.

Conversation highlights

Please note the transcript has been modified for clarity and length.

Tom Rourke (Host):  What makes this moment different for cybersecurity?

Kate Yamashita: Frontier AI represents a fundamental shift. It is leveling and expanding the playing field, allowing less sophisticated threat actors to achieve more while changing the attack surface hour by hour. Organizations must move beyond point-in-time controls toward continuous monitoring, identity validation, trust building and risk reduction. (Hear the full response at 5:07)

Tom Rourke: Who needs to be part of the conversation about security now?

Janna Dewar: Security is no longer solely a cybersecurity function. Business owners, executives and employees across the organization must be involved. Security teams need to understand business goals, partner with the organization and enable progress while keeping systems and customer information safe. For a national passenger rail service, trust begins in the systems that manage customer information, not only on the train. (Hear the full response at 7:29)
