Our sustainability strategy

Kyndryl's commitment to environmental sustainability is a fundamental part of our business operations. We recognize the impact we have on the environment and our responsibility to minimize our greenhouse gas (GHG) footprint and promote sustainable practices.

Kyndryl’s corporate environmental sustainability policy outlines our commitment and anchors our goal of becoming a sustainability leader across all business activities, products, and services.

The management of Kyndryl’s environmental sustainability program is focused on four strategic priorities. These priorities were established in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, Kyndryl’s business imperatives, and our stakeholders’ needs.

1. Manage climate change risk and environmental operational efficiency
  • Since committing to net zero GHG emissions by 2040, we have achieved an 18% reduction in total Scope 1, 2 (market-based), and 3 GHG emissions since FY23, advancing toward 2030 and 2040 Science Based Targets initiative–validated goals.

  • Increased renewable electricity usage to 58% of total purchased electricity in FY25. 
  • Reduced total energy consumption by 17% and improved GHG intensity by 15% year-over-year. 
  • Diverted 99.99% of IT e-waste from landfills, with only 9 kg landfilled in FY25. 
  • Reduced water consumption in water-stressed areas by 18% since FY23, progressing toward a 30% reduction goal by 2030. 
  • Strengthened biodiversity efforts using IBAT assessments to identify high-impact locations for targeted projects.

2. Manage system performance and regulatory compliance
  • Maintained global ISO 14001 and 50001 certifications for its Environmental and Energy Management System (E&EnMS). 
  • Integrated findings from double materiality assessments and audits to enhance E&EnMS effectiveness. 
  • Continued alignment with leading frameworks: TCFD, GRI, SASB, and CDP.  
  • Engaged third-party assurance for select environmental metrics, including GHG emissions, water, and waste.

3. Be a preferred service provider
  • Trained over 40,000 employees through the Mission Net-Zero course, surpassing the initial goal of 21,000 completions. 
  • Piloted Climate Fresk workshops with 300 employees to deepen climate literacy. 
  • Expanded the Green Guild to 500+ members and the Eco Stream Network to 1,600+ members across 49 countries. 
  • Delivered sustainability services to customers via Kyndryl Sustainability Advisor on the AI-powered Kyndryl Bridge platform. 
  • Recognized by ISG as a Leader in Sustainability and ESG: IT Solutions and Services. 
  • Work with alliance partners to develop sustainability studies. Kyndryl and Microsoft recently worked with Ecosystem to develop the Global Sustainability Barometer using insights from more than 1500 technology and sustainability leaders to narrow the gap between sustainability intention and action by enabling customers to fully harness the power of technology.

4. Drive market differentiation through business practices with partners
  • Launched tailored sustainability services across strategy, insights, and transformation that support decarbonization, regulatory compliance, and IT modernization. 
  • Enhanced Kyndryl Sustainability Advisor with AI-driven analytics and automated reporting for hybrid IT environments. 
  • Achieved Google Cloud Ready – Energy & Carbon Designation by helping customers optimize energy-efficient infrastructure. 
  • Supported customer success stories, including data center optimization and hybrid IT emissions tracking. 
  • Engaged over 7,500 suppliers in a global education campaign aligned with Kyndryl’s net-zero goals and encouraged SBTi-aligned commitments. 
  • Continuing the work of our Green Guild, a customer-facing program that brings Kyndryls together to develop sustainable business solutions, leveraging Kyndryl Bridge, Kyndryl Vital and Kyndryl Consult

Kyndryl is committed to high standards of corporate responsibility and sustainability throughout our operations and supply chain. Kyndryl is a member of the Responsible Business Alliance (RBA) that has its own code of conduct reflecting social, environmental and ethical industry standards.
