Facing increased competitive pressure and industry-wide demand for digital services, a leading South American insurance company wanted to increase its agility and resiliency. The company had embarked on a strategic program of migrating systems to Microsoft Azure, which it judged the best cloud for supporting its business applications and modernizing its IT infrastructure. Technical challenge

Migrating x86-based workloads to the public cloud is relatively easy, since this is the de facto global standard. For the insurance company, migrating workloads running on the IBM Power architecture represented a much greater challenge.

Leaving these workloads on-premises and not including them in its broader cloud transformation efforts meant the company was not able to fully realize the cost and agility benefits of its cloud migration. As its Oracle workloads on IBM Power are mission-critical, the company sought a low-risk, proven path to Azure that would minimize business disruption.

Together with Kyndryl and Microsoft, the insurance company identified Kyndryl Skytap on Azure as the optimal solution to help it accelerate cloud migration for its Oracle workloads on IBM Power.

By choosing Kyndryl Skytap, the company was able to migrate the Oracle workloads without incurring the cost of re-writing, refactoring or re-platforming the applications.

The Kyndryl Skytap solution accelerated the migration of these core applications with minimal change and risk while augmenting them with the global availability and scalability of Azure.

The solution enables the insurer to operate its Oracle systems on Azure using the same IT skill sets and techniques, reducing the need to retrain staff.
