Prysmian aims to expand to a multi-cloud environment that delivers better efficiency and flexibility in operations

MILAN, Italy, and NEW YORK, N.Y., February 16, 2022 - Prysmian Group and Kyndryl (NYSE: KD), the world's largest IT infrastructure services provider, have announced a three-year extended agreement that will support Prysmian in its long-term digital transformation process, including the migration of many of its mission critical operations to the IBM Cloud.

Under the agreement, Prysmian, the global leader in the energy and telecommunications cables and systems business, has tapped Kyndryl to migrate its core workloads to the IBM Cloud, with the longer-term goal of expanding its architectural transformation to a multi-cloud strategy. By embracing a hybrid cloud model, Prysmian can optimize the remaining workloads it runs from its traditional data centers, making it easier and more efficient for it to conduct business and serve its customers.

“Active listening to the customer's needs, efficient and well-governed infrastructure and easy integration in a hybrid environment are the main drivers of our choice to adopt the Private Cloud provided by Kyndryl," said Stefano Brandinali, Prysmian Group Chief Digital Officer and Chief Information Officer.

This work is part of Prysmian’s broader modernization strategy and is key to driving sustainable growth through delivering superior solutions in an increasingly digital and competitive market. By embracing a hybrid cloud approach, Prysmian gains more flexibility to move and manage critical workloads across IT environments, enabling improved business continuity and faster innovation in offerings and services for customers.

“Kyndryl enables Prysmian to benefit from the greater flexibility needed to serve the biggest players in the telco and utilities industries, with a more adaptable and scalable IT infrastructure,” said Ernesto De Ruggiero, Customer Unit Leader North, Kyndryl Italy. “We are excited to build on the successful collaboration with Prysmian as they progress their digital transformation journey and harness the advantages of a hybrid, multi-cloud strategy, which is secure, scalable and resilient.”

The announcement comes after an initial phase of cooperation in 2021, when a team of Kyndryl experts successfully migrated Prysmian's SAP production environment from data centers in Pero and Cascia to IBM Cloud data centers located in Milan (Cornaredo) and Frankfurt.

Prysmian selected Kyndryl for this implementation because of its expertise in cloud management and migration. Kyndryl has deep experience in advancing enterprise digital journeys with an expert-led transition through cloud modernization that is agile and flexible.
