TOKYO, December 19, 2023 — Kyndryl (NYSE: KD), the world’s largest IT infrastructure services provider, today announced that it is supporting Sony Life Insurance (Sony Life) to use automation to help streamline, standardize and visualize the insurer’s customer-oriented business operations. The digital transformation project, which started in April 2023, deploys an automation platform called Cloud Automation Community Framework (CACF) to automate mainframe operations and will have benefits for both Sony Life and its customers.

In the past, IT technicians would submit requests for mainframe batch job execution and application releases — about 1,000 per month — through forms or by phone, and operators would receive and execute the requests. With the new system, IT technicians simply issue a ticket, which host request operations that can be done automatically via Kyndryl's integrated monitoring tool, Monitoring & Event as a service (M&E), and the automation platform, CACF. The automation enables IT technicians to perform most tasks on a self-service basis, leading to accelerated, efficient, standardized and visualized operations.

Kyndryl is providing CACF as an automation platform using Ansible, an open-source IT automation tool that assists in the digital transformation of customers’ IT operations.

Kiyohisa Goto, Executive Officer and Director of IT Digital Strategy division, Sony Life Insurance Co., Ltd. said, “In order to take our customer-oriented business operations to the next level, the automation of operations was an inevitable step. The significant reduction in workload for manual processes has produced significant benefits, such as increased speed and more accurate and reliable execution of tasks, which in turn brings value to our customers. We look forward to Kyndryl's contributions in promoting an even greater level of automation in the future.”

Takashi Uesaka, President, Kyndryl Japan, said, “Digital transformation of IT operations is an urgent issue that needs to be addressed to improve Japan's social infrastructure. The safe and secure use of mission-critical systems that support the foundations of society and business is made possible by the superior technical skills and efforts of those involved in operations. Systems are becoming more complex, and the time and effort related to operations is increasing. Amid these circumstances, it is important to create a more efficient and modern working environment for the engineers involved in IT operations. We will contribute to higher quality and improved speed, establishing an even more refined operational landscape, by continuing to advance our IT operations.”
