The demand for last-mile delivery packaging has soared alongside the huge growth of e-commerce, especially during the pandemic as we’ve all tried to keep our lives running as smoothly as we can. That’s why it’s no surprise the global paper packaging market is expected to reach a value of USD 82.4 billion by 2023, and to have grown at a rate of 4.19% year-over-year from 2018 through 2023. Global packaging manufacturers are facing an important inflection point as they address evolving market needs amidst this rapid growth.

Today, we are sharing details of how Kyndryl supported the global packaging and paper company Mondi Group through its conversion of 40 factories across 15 countries to the cutting-edge SAP S/4HANA® (*)  platform – with zero downtime.

To deliver better resiliency and bolster system performance, Kyndryl’s experts worked with Mondi Group to host and migrate their ERP SAP S/4HANA® (*) workloads to the latest generations of IBM POWER9 ® (**) Systems servers and IBM FlashSystem ® storage in our data centers in Austria.

We knew it was essential for Mondi’s packaging production and delivery operations to continue functioning seamlessly to meet the non-stop demand for online delivery brought on by the pandemic. And our experts worked side-by-side with the teams at Mondi Group to successfully complete this crucial transformation without interruption.

Big enterprise challenges will always persist and will spur a continued need for innovation across industries. The tough, high-stakes decisions that will define a company’s success for decades to come should not be made alone. That’s why Kyndryl is proud that Mondi Group has trusted us with this important work as we continue to help them transform their IT landscape.
