Our sustainability strategy

Kyndryl's commitment to environmental sustainability is a fundamental part of our business operations. We recognize the impact we have on the environment and our responsibility to minimize our greenhouse gas (GHG) footprint and promote sustainable practices.

Kyndryl’s corporate environmental sustainability policy outlines our commitment and anchors our goal of becoming a sustainability leader across all business activities, products, and services.

The management of Kyndryl’s environmental sustainability program is focused on four strategic priorities. These priorities were established in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, Kyndryl’s business imperatives, and our stakeholders’ needs.

1. To manage climate change risk and environmental operational efficiency, we have: 

  • Committed to net zero GHG emissions by 2040. We have set near-term 2030 targets to reduce Kyndryl’s global scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions by 50%, reduce scope 1 and 2 emissions by 75%, and adopt 100% renewable energy. We have validated our targets through the Science Based Target initiative.

  • Developed our scope 1, 2, and 3 greenhouse gas baseline and inventory with third-party assurance, including an integrated financial and emissions model to meet our net zero goals.

  • Enabled the generation of 16,100 MWh of solar energy and used 51% renewable energy in our fiscal year 2024.

  • Continued to develop our water, waste, and biodiversity programs and goals aligned with leading frameworks and industry best practices.

2. To manage system performance and regulatory compliance, we are:

  • Continually improving our certified Environmental and Energy Management System in accordance with the ISO 14001 and 50001 standards.

  • Disclosing our progress using industry best practices and leading frameworks: SASB, TCFD, GRI, and CDP.  

  • Continuing to monitor and meet material compliance with all applicable government requirements.
3. To be a preferred customer service provider, we will: 

  • Collaborate with our customers to help them with their sustainability goals.

  • Work with alliance partners to develop sustainability studies. Kyndryl and Microsoft recently worked with Ecosystem to develop the Global Sustainability Barometer using insights from more than 1500 technology and sustainability leaders to narrow the gap between sustainability intention and action by enabling customers to fully harness the power of technology. 

  • Rigorously train our experts in the latest skills. We have 14,000+ employees complete our sustainability course - Mission net Zero, available in 18 languages. Additionally, 1,200+ employees are actively engaged in our grass-roots environmental action Eco Stream Network. 

  • Develop sustainability net zero training and internal volunteering programs to build employee engagement. 

4. To drive market differentiation, leveraging business practices with partners, we are: 

  • Supporting the development and launch of sustainability solutions on Kyndryl Bridge

  • Customizing our solutions to meet our customers’ business and sustainability goals  – including cloud migration, digital transformation, AI, security, and networking – all of which can address ESG needs

  • Continuing the work of our Green Guild, a customer-facing program that brings Kyndryls together to develop sustainable business solutions, leveraging Kyndryl Bridge, Kyndryl Vital and Kyndryl Consult.

  • Providing strategic sustainability advisory, information & insights and transformational services to drive environmental and business impact. 
  • Working together through a single dashboard, we can visualize the entire technology landscape and understand their environmental impact across a hybrid multi cloud IT with Kyndryl Sustainability Advisor.

Kyndryl is committed to high standards of corporate responsibility and sustainability throughout our operations and supply chain. Kyndryl is a member of the Responsible Business Alliance (RBA) which has its own code of conduct reflecting social, environmental and ethical industry standards.  

 

In partnership with RBA, we ask that all our suppliers adhere to RBA's Code of conduct.
